Therapist Trainings

ABA Basic Training:

This training provides an introduction to behavior analysis principles such as reinforcement and reinforcement schedules, the antecedent-behavior-consequence model,  observational data taking, extinction, functions of behavior, intervention strategies based on functions of behavior, discrete trial training, prompting hierarchies, and an introduction to B. F. Skinner’s behavioral classification of language (receptive, tact, echoic, imitation, mand, intraverbal).  Most students attending this training have some experience in ABA, but introductory students are welcome.  In addition, this training a good refresher for parents who are familiar with some basic behavior analysis methodology.  See our Calendar of Events for scheduled trainings. Please call Deirdre at 314-479-8083 with questions or to reserve a spot.

Paraprofessional Professionalism:

This training covers basic information for paraprofessionals who will be working with clients in the fields of behavior analysis, education or special education, psychology, and speech and language therapy.  Topics covered include confidentiality, attendance and punctuality, scheduling, conflict management, and a review of verbal behavior basics.  See our Calendar of Events for scheduled trainings. Please call Deirdre at 314-479-8083 with questions or to reserve a spot.

Advanced ABA Therapist Training:  Principles of Reinforcement

 and Differential Reinforcement

This training provides an in-depth analysis of reinforcement, including positive versus negative reinforcement, automatic versus socially mediated reinforcement, fixed and variable interval and ratio schedules, and factors influencing the effectiveness of reinforcement (immediacy, establishing operations, magnitude, etc.).  Also discussed in regard to differential reinforcement are:  differential reinforcement of alternative behavior (DRA), differential reinforcement of an incompatible behavior (DRI), differential reinforcement of other behavior (DRO), and guidelines on the ethical and effective use of differential reinforcement procedures. See our Calendar of Events for scheduled trainings. Please call Deirdre at 314-479-8083 with questions or to reserve a spot.

Advanced ABA Therapist Training:  Antecedent Manipulation Procedures:

This training provides an overview and analysis of nonaversive antecedent procedures that can be utilized to change behavior through environmental rather than consequence manipulations.  Included in this lecture is information on how to add or decrease cues in the environment, as well as manipulating establishing operations and response effort.  Sequential analyses and its relationship to the three-term contingency are also discussed and applied to case examples.  See our Calendar of Events for scheduled trainings. Please call Deirdre at 314-479-8083 with questions or to reserve a spot.

Advanced ABA Therapist Training:  Stimulus Control

This training provides an overview and analysis of stimulus control, stimulus discrimination training, and the transfer of stimulus control from prompts to the environment.  The differences between SDs and S-deltas are discussed as well as stimulus and response prompting and fading and implications for therapy. See our Calendar of Events for scheduled trainings. Please call Deirdre at 314-479-8083 with questions or to reserve a spot.

Parent Trainings

IEPs and Autism/Developmental Delays:  Advocacy

This parent training is directed towards parents who are looking for support and knowledge for the IEP process, whether it is their child’s first IEP or their fifth.  A literature review and important findings will be discussed as well as guidelines for what services school districts must provide and how to maximize the potential of your services.  A guest speaker, Byron Koster, a senior advocate with Missouri Protection and Advocacy, will present on how to avoid due process and how to make the most of your IEP, and there will be a brief question and answer session.  See our Calendar of Events for scheduled trainings. Please call Deirdre at 314-479-8083 with questions or to reserve a spot.

The Dos and Don'ts of Running an ABA Program

Starting and maintaining a home ABA program for your child can be a full-time job. This training offers pointers for hiring and keeping implementors, keeping your program fresh and fun for your child, troubleshooting, and many more. See our Calendar of Events for scheduled trainings. Please call Deirdre at 314-479-8083 with questions or to reserve a spot.

Managing Problem Behaviors

This parent training focuses on how to manage your child’s behavior through the application of common behavior analysis procedures.  Topics covered in this training include observational data taking, functions of problem behaviors, analyzing a sequential analysis, basic antecedent control procedures, differential reinforcement and functional communication training, type I vs type II punishment, and finding and applying effective consequences for problem behavior.  This goal of this training is to teach parents how to take data, find functions of behavior through analyzing a sequential analysis, choose an appropriate antecedent manipulation and/or consequence, and applying an appropriate and effective consequence to reduce mild to moderate problem behavior.  See our Calendar of Events for scheduled trainings. Please call Deirdre at 314-479-8083 with questions or to reserve a spot.
