Music Therapy

Speech Group--This group, led by a Certified Music Therapist, facilitates oral motor movements and speech sounds through music. Parents will participate to assist in eliciting speech from their children through repetition and music. This is an excellent opportunity for children with apraxia to learn speech in a musical environment.

Social Skills Group--This group, led by a Certified Music Therapist, offers structured, music-based activities focused on building social communication skills (eye contact, greetings, conversational responses) and basic social interaction skills (turn taking, sharing, appropriate interrupting, etc.) with flexibility to address specific child concerns as voiced by the parents.

Occupational Therapy

Handwriting Group: This group is appropriate for children who have
difficulty writing, cutting, or manipulating fasteners on clothing due to decreased
finger strength, decreased fine motor control, inappropriate gross and pincer grasps,
and avoiding bringing hands to midline. Activities will include teaching proper letter formation,
encouraging proper positioning while writing, teaching an age-appropriate way to
hold a writing utensil, participating in dexterity and finger strengthening tasks to
increase manipulation skills, introducing new strategies to decrease letter reversals
and increase line adherence, and teaching prewriting skills for younger children.
Handwriting Without Tears techniques will be utilized.
Appropriate for children ages 3.5-6 (3-5 children).

“The Just Right” Group: This group will benefit children who may need more insight
in determining the “Just Right” state of alertness for success. Using “How Does Your
Engine Run?”, The Alert Program for Self-Regulation, the group will promote
awareness of arousal states while encouraging the use of sensory-motor strategies.
Children will feel in control when they learn how to take responsibility for themselves
and make gains in self-confidence and self-esteem.

Picky Eaters Group:  This group will benefit your child if he or she is a picky eater,
has excessive drooling, has difficulty sticking out his or her tongue or moving it side to
side, has oral or facial hypo/hyper-sensitivities, has difficulty chewing, and cannot
self-feed with a cup drink or straw drink. Activities will include: playing with different
foods, trying different foods, chewing activities, cup drinking, and oral stimulation.
(3-5 children).

Messy Play Group--This group will benefit your child if he or she resists touch, dislikes various clothing, avoids using his or her hands, is a picky eater, or dislikes being messy. Activities may include finger painting, playing in shaving cream; making "clean mud"; playing with Thera-putty, Playdoh, OOBLIK, and goop; playing in sensory media such as rice, beans, oatmeal, flour; feeling various textured materials; and receiving lotion massages.

Yoga for Kids--This yoga group is full of breathing exercises, relaxation techniques, and fun yoga poses that will help to encourage relaxation, self-control, a sense of well-being, strength, concentration, flexibility, self-esteem, and body awareness in each child. Each class is directed towards promoting self-expression, respect, and general understanding of the inner control we can have over our bodies.

Social Skills

Facilitated Playgroup--This group is a wonderful opportunity for children to form friendships by sharing a common bonding experience on a weekly basis. During each group, the children will get to know their peers while they learn and practice social skills through activities such as games, arts & crafts, and motor-play. Child to adult ratio is 4:1 and maximum class size is 16 children.

After-School Social Hour/Saturday Social Hour --This group is designed as an intensive, group-therapy experience. Instructors will work with parents prior to class in developing appropriate social goals for each child. Some areas of focus may include conversation, turn-taking, compromising, problem-solving, teamwork, good sportsmanship, and theory of mind. Activities will be planned based upon the needs of the children as individuals and as a group. Goal sheets will be given out prior to each class. Parent observation is encouraged. Child to adult ratio is 2:1 and maximum class size is 8 children. Children with intense needs may be required to have a 1:1 assistant.

Focused Social Groups--This group will break down difficult social skills into small, teachable steps. Students will have the opportunity to role play and practice skills before having to use them in real life. Each group is scheduled specifically for your child and up to 3 appropriate peer matches. Groups remain small in order to give each child lots of repetition and practice with their social skills.

Art Therapy

Art Therapy Class--The goal of this class is to learn new ways of self expression through art experiential. Children will learn to develop coping skills through positive interaction and other skill development. They will also improve self esteem through completing tasks and art processes successfully.
